Yaiza se licenció por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid y tras un periodo en clínica privada y un internado en la Universidad Complutense, se mudó al Reino Unido, donde realizó un internado de pequeños animales en el Royal Veterinary College, seguido de una residencia en medicina interna en la Universidad de Liverpool. Al terminar la residencia obtuvo su título de Especialista Europea de Medicina Interna y volvió al Royal Veterinary College, donde hizo un doctorado sobre la diabetes felina. Después trabajó varios años como profesora de medicina interna en la misma universidad. En el 2018, Yaiza se mudó con su familia a Holanda, donde actualmente trabaja como internista además de para VIN, una comunidad global de veterinarios ofreciendo apoyo y formación a veterinarios, entre sus actividades incluye la creación y coordinación de un programa de internado online para veterinarios en cualquier lugar del mundo.  Además de trabajar en labores clínicas y de apoyo a veterinarios, Yaiza sigue siendo una apasionada de la medicina felina, teniendo un interés especial en la diabetes mellitus felina y manteniéndose activa en los avances y en el desarrollo de nuevas estrategias de tratamiento para esta enfermedad.

Yaiza graduated at the University of Madrid. Shortly after graduation she moved to the UK to do an internship at the Royal Veterinary College in London. She followed this up with an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Liverpool and passed her ECVIM boards in 2008. After this, she returned to the Royal Veterinary College to do a PhD in Genetics and Pathophysiology of Feline Diabetes Mellitus. After that, she became a Lecturer in Internal Medicine at the Royal Veterinary College. She moved with her family to The Netherlands in 2018, where she works as an internal medicine clinician. Yaiza currently spends most of her time working for VIN, she is a Feline and Canine Internal Medicine consultant, as well as the co-director of VIN’s own Veterinary Mentorship Academy, of which the Virtual Veterinary Internship is the flagship program. Yaiza enjoys working as a clinician, but most of all loves mentoring and supporting veterinarians through the transition between university and clinical work, she is also one of the mentors at VIN Virtual Veterinary Internship.
